Teaching Method
My teaching methodology combines the principles of the direct method and blended learning, two teaching approaches which are highly appreciated for their effectiveness and fast results. In order to improve the efficiency of my classes, I have added several techniques to complement the methods (eg translation of vocabulary at the elementary and pre-intermediate levels) and practical exercises (eg presentations and listening comprehension).
Principles of Tuition:
- The target language is used in classes all the time. Students may not use their first language, except at elementary and pre-intermediate levels to translate new vocabulary.
- Students receive all instructions in the target language, even at the elementary level.
- Students are encouraged not only to learn and practise the target language, but to think in the target language as well.
- First, students learn to speak. It is only after they have mastered the basics of speaking that they are introduced to writing.
- Grammar is studied in the target language -- intuitively.
- Vocabulary is studied on the basis of visual aids using objects and pictures to increase the speed at which students learn new words. Abstract vocabulary is learnt by means of associations.
